Hitman Freelancer is a free update for Hitman World of Assassination that introduces rogue-like elements, strategic planning, and a customizable safehouse into it’s own single player mode.
Although challenging, the Hitman Freelancer roguelike mode is a breath of fresh air for the already great Hitman game. In each mission you’re trying to eliminate multiple Syndicates that come with three to six missions varying in difficulty. The catch is there are no saves while playing a mission and if you die you lose all the gear you’re carrying. Also failing a mission will alert the other syndicates to be on high alert once you go back into another mission.
Finding rare weapons and items and then finishing a mission will allow you to bring that new gear to your safehouse to store there or to bring with you on your next mission. The safehouse is customizable allowing you to change furniture, decor, music and more by progressing as a freelancer.
Hitman Freelancer Steam Deck Performance
I managed to get a great playable experience with Hitman Freelancer on the Steam Deck by locking the Steam Deck’s refresh rate and frame limit to 40fps and using CryoUtilities. I also made some in game graphic setting adjustments that could you find in this article.
Our in game settings could be found on our side bar to the right of this article (if you’re on desktop) or at the bottom of this article (if you’re on mobile).
After all my adjustments I managed to get a smooth 40 fps with some minor unnoticeable drops when near a large crowd of people with a battery life just under 2 hours. Overall the game runs and looks great on the Steam Deck making this a must play on the Steam Deck hardware.
I also added the launch options parameter -skip_launcher
to skip the Hitman launcher that appeared every time you launch the game.
