Gripper is a story-driven action game that takes place on a cyber bike where you ride, slide and dodge through challenging post-apocalyptic landscapes and boss fights with unique bike movement and combat mechanics.
The story is not something that’s going to keep you glued to your seat but if you’re into a challenging racing cyberpunk esque biker game mixed in with some pretty cool combat you would enjoy this game. Using your bike’s hook to grip explosive barrels to toss at big bosses while dodging a horde of enemies is satisfying especially when you start to use your hook to rip apart the limbs of the bosses one by one. There’s a decent progression system as well that you could use to upgrade abilities, you health bar and look of your bike.
The boss battles and racing through these obstacle tunnels before each boss battle could be so frustrating due to the mechanics of the game. I like a challenging game but then there’s Gripper, It took me so many tries to just get the past the first level and boss. When I finally beat it I wasn’t satisfied because I knew I had to do it all over again with the next obstacle and boss.
Gripper Steam Deck Performance
Our in game settings could be found on our side bar to the right of this article (if you’re on desktop) or at the bottom of this article (if you’re on mobile).
CryoUtilities is installed and configured on my Steam Deck to increase performance. With CryoUtilities and my recommended in game settings I managed to get an average of 50-60fps with some dips occurring during cutscenes and in game explosions when against a boss. Even with the drops I would consider this a playable experience on the Steam Deck.
