Nocturnal is a side scrolling action platformer where you play as Ardeshir, a soldier of the Enduring Flame, trying to discover what happened to his native island covered in a mysterious fog.
Your weapon of choice throughout Nocturnal is a blade but as the soldier of the Enduring Flame, you will use the fire in the game to your advantage. There’s a cool down effect but you can get your blade on fire to do more damage to enemies and to help navigate through obstacles to unlock passages through out the game.
There’s a whole skill tree of abilities/perks to unlock like using the fire on your blade to heal yourself and the ability to throw your blade. This is where the strategic part of the game comes in play. You have to make sure to light up areas near you incase you need to heal yourself or need the fire on your blade to do more damage to enemies.
The combat in the game could be pretty tough since there’s no block button. You can slash, duck, jump, jump dash and eventually launch your blade. Each enemy has a pattern to the way they attack so make sure to be patient before spamming the attack button against enemies.
Nocturnal Steam Deck Performance
Nocturnal runs perfect at 60fps on the Steam Deck with little to no graphic options in the game. Set your in game resolution to 1280×720 with Full Screen and V Sync On. To get over 3 hours of battery life I set my Steam Deck performance framerate limit & refresh rate to 60 and put my TDP to 9 watts.
